Four Grand Tour plaster intaglios wrapped in braided, gilded pine by Paoletti. Each intaglio is adorned with a handwritten number for original record keeping. This exquisite assemblage features classical motifs inspired by the art, mythology and antiquities of ancient Greece and Rome. Reflecting the enduring fascination with classical antiquity that defined the European Grand Tour. These intaglios were once collected as souveniers in the 19th century.
Each miniature relief showcases its own distinctive subject of classical profiles. Mounted in an antique gilded wood and gesso frame with a french blue painted backer. Frame was made into a shadow box to accommodate depth of intaglios.
Some plaster intaglios may display some mild discoloration and loses due to their age.
